SS 304 vs. SS 316: Which is Right for Your Needs?
For a cheaper use in the general indoor environment, that is not heavily exposed to harsh chemicals or saltwater, you can go with SS 304. On the other hand, if you want a material that remains unscathed in a corrosive environment such as the chemical, marine, medical, and high-temperature areas, choose SS 316.
Basically, SS 316 is made with an extra molybdenum that makes it more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion attack, however, it is more expensive.
